Día del café
El miércoles 27 de Junio celebramos en Colombia el día nacional del café. Es una buena forma de reconocer este producto que tanto orgullo le ha dado a nuestro país y que además es la fuente de empleo y desarrollo de muchas familias.
Este día coincide con la celebración del aniversario de fundación la Federación de Cafeteros. Fue en 1927 por estos días que los cafeteros se reunieron para construir juntos una organización que les permitiera ser más competitivos. Durante 85 Años, a través de la Federación, los cafeteros han logrado construir juntos una serie de beneficios colectivos, como la Garantía de Compra, la Investigación Científica, la Asistencia Técnica, el Control de la Calidad, y la Promoción que han hecho del Café de Colombia un producto reconocido por todo el mundo.
Es por eso que estuve en Medellín celebrando el día nacional del café y los 85 años de la Federación Nacional de Cafeteros. Llegué en la mañana y fui directamente al Centro de Convenciones Plaza Mayor donde me reuní con cafeteros representantes de todos los departamentos de Colombia para celebrar un día tan importante para nosotros. Casi no los reconozco, no siempre se ve a los cafeteros de corbata, pero esta siempre es una ocasión especial!
Los cafeteros reunidos fueron elegidos por votación en las elecciones cafeteras que se celebraron en el 2010 (se hacen cada 4 años). Ellos tienen una labor muy importante. Todos los años se reúnen para definir las políticas cafeteras de Colombia según las prioridades de las familias que representan pero en este caso estábamos para celebrar y también para reflexionar sobre los retos que tiene nuestra caficultura.
Lo mejor de todo es que las festividades no terminaron aquí, este fin de semana se celebró la Fiesta Nacional del Café en Calarcá, un municipio muy cafetero del departamento del Quindío en el centro de Colombia, con el desfile del Yipao, los carros más representativos de esta labor y se celebró el primer año de la declaratoria del Paisaje Cultural Cafetero con un carnaval.

Colombian coffee day
On Wednesday June 27 we celebrated the Colombian Coffee Day. It is the perfect way to recognize this product that has given my country so many reasons to be proud of, and is the source of employment and development of many families.
This day coincides with the celebration of the anniversary of the founding the Federation of Coffee Growers. It all started in 1927 around these days that coffee growers got together to build an organization that allowed them to be more competitive. For 85 years, through the Federation, coffee growers have been able to built together a series of collective benefits, like the Purchase Guarantee, Scientific Investigation, Technical Assistance, Quality Control and Promotion that has made Colombian coffee a product that is recognized worldwide.
That´s why I went to Medellín, I went to celebrate Colombian coffee day and the 85th Anniversary of the National Coffee Growers Federation. I arrived in the morning and immediately went to Plaza Mayor Conventions and Exhibitions Center where I joined the coffee growers that represent all the departments of Colombia to celebrate such an important date to all of us. I almost didn´t recognized any of them, you don´t see coffee growers dressed in tie every day, but this is always a special occasion!
The coffee growers were chosen by vote on the coffee elections that were held in 2012 (they are done every 4 years). They have a very important job. Every year they get together to define coffee politics in Colombia according to the priorities of the families they represent, but in this case we were celebrating and reflecting about the challenges of coffee growing.
The best thing is that the celebrations don´t end here, this weekend the National Coffee Day is celebrated in Calarcá – Quindio with the Yipao parade, the most representative cars of this labor and the first anniversary of the declaration of the Coffee Cultural Landscape with a parade.
